I haven't posted in a while, feeling like no one really reads and also busy with work and kids. Anyways, Joe did qualify for Speech Therapy, and also is in need of an audio evaluation. He is failed the hearing test at the pediatrician's office. However, we are still waiting for therapy to start...it is very frustration. Joe has made a lot of gains in his receptive language, but still doesn't seem to be catching on to expressive language. The word around town, is that EI is not picking up any new kids because our state is late in paying their salaries and the fees!!
Meanwhile, we are trying to deal with figuring out what he wants, (the signs he knows just aren't cutting it, and I don't know enough of them to teach him more) Encouraging him to make some attempt at repeating approximations of words, reading up on speech delays, dealing with helping him interact with other children at childcare in a non-physical way, and trying not to over think things.
I have to say my face lit up today, we were testing our preschoolers for pre-literacy skills (vocabulary to be specific). A little guy that I taught last year (but recommended he move to a smaller class because his speech was so far behind) walked in. He was barely able to make any consonent sounds last school year. And here he was spouting out labels for the cards left and right, and he was very understandable. I love that about my job, seeing the growth from 3 to 5...especially when they make such nice progress... So I know it will get better for Joe, but for now we wait...
Our Christmas came and went with...we enjoyed time with family and each other! I've had enough of the snow and below 0 temps.

That sucks that Joe isn't getting services. Could you bribe someone from work to help out for awhile?
