It's that time of year, back to school! As the summer ends, I usually don't mind going back. I love having the best of both worlds, being able to stay home with my kids for the summer (and usually not having to be cooped up at the house) and having a career. It's about this time that we have had more than enough of each other...
We have decided to make some changes in our kid care situation. When Emily was little, she attended a well known daycare chain. I could not have been happier with her experiences, my husband and I both felt that the center offered insurance that our child would be safe and well taken care of, and it was the best choice for our family.
When Joe was born, we had moved out to the middle of nowhere. Our neighbor offered to watch both kids for us, and it all worked out quite well. Emily was attending school 1/2 days, and Joe was an infant. Plus the cost of sending 2 small children to a center can cost an arm and a leg. This year Emily finally attends school full time this year, and I am fortunate enough to be able to work at the same building. We have decided to send Joe to the same daycare chain, different location, that Emily attended as a child. I am hoping that this will motivate Joe to talk more, use more social language, have peers modeling language, not to mention give him a little taste of "the world does not revolve around me!"
His first day was a bit of a bust.
Didn't eat
Didn't play
Didn't talk
Didn't interact
but.... he did sit on the toilet and he took a nap.
We are starting slow--once a week until we go back full time. Tomorrow is day 2...
Wish me luck.

Of course he slept! It'll get better, it has to, right?
